عنّاق الأرض من الحيوانات الثديية اللاحمة والتي تتبع فصيلة السنوريات.
حيوان شرس سريع جداً متوسط الحجم. يصل معدل وزن ذكور عناق الأرض إلى ما بين 13 و 18 كيلوغراما (28 - 40 رطلا)، أما الإناث أصغر حجماً فإن معدل وزنها هو 11 كيلوغرام.
يبلغ طول الوشق الصحراوي حوالي 65 سم.
يقتات على القوارض والأرانب البرية والوبر، وقد يهاجم طرائد أكبر حجما في بعض الأحيان مثل الغزلان، الظباء الصغيرة، أو النعام اليافعة.
يتميز العناق بمهارته في صيد الطيور، فهو قادر على التقاط أحدها أثناء طيرانه أو حتى أكثر من واحد في بعض الأحيان.
