العقاب البازي المُزيَّن طائر جارح يعيش في المناطق الاستوائية من الأمريكتين، يتميز هذا النوع بألوانه الزاهية، والتي تختلف بوضوح عن الأنواع الأخرى.
طائر متوسط الحجم أو كبير، فطوله يتراوح ما بين 56 إلى 68.5 سنتمتر، والمسافة بين جناحيه 117 إلى 142 سنتمترا، ووزنه ما بين 960 إلى 1650 غراما، وله عرف (ريش على الرأس) بارز مستدق ينتصب عندما يُستثار الطائر.
الفرائس الأساسية للعقاب البازي المزين هي الطيور، فهو يصطاد الطيور ذات الأحجام من 180 غراما إلى 8 كيلوغرامات، وهو يصطاد عدة أنواع من الحيوانات مثل: الطوقان والحمام والمقو والببغاء والكوتينغا والدجاج، كما يمكن أن يصطاد الثديات مثل: السناجب والجرذان والسعادين، كما يصطاد الزواحف بين الحين والآخر.

This is a medium-large raptor, at about 56–68.5 cm (22–27 in) in length, 117–142 cm (46–56 in) across the wings and weighing about 960-1,650 g (2.1-3.6 lbs). It has a prominent pointed crest, raised when excited.
Birds are the principal prey. Prey items have ranged in size from 180 g (6.4 oz) to 8 kg (18 lbs) when taken. Prey species have included little blue herons, curassows, toucans, wood-quails, pigeons, macaws, parrots, cotingas, chickens and even a black vulture. Mammals are also significant prey, with agoutis, squirrels, rats, procyonids and monkeys often taken. Reptiles are also occasionally hunted.
